Production Process Of Monster Inc Film Studies Essay The process of movie making entails four stages, development, pre-production, production and post-production. The development stage involves the process of creating the story line. At the pre-production level the technical challenges are addressed. It is in the production stage that the actual filming takes place and polishing of the movie is done at the post production stage. The Pixar process through which Monster Inc passes is detailed below. Step1: This step entails explaining of the idea about the movie to the audience and the members of the development team. At this stage the originality of the idea is pivotal as it translates to how viable the movie is. The idea of Sulley and Mike working for Monsters Inc is an incredible idea and so is the inclusion of Boo. The work was developed from the two artists namely Docter and Grant. The adult man had the childhood drawings come to life and start plaguing on his existence. He could see the monsters but the other could not. The monsters represented the fears he had to deal with as a kid and which he did not. However, these monsters disappeared at he continued to overcome these fears. In shooting of Monster Inc this was done by using software which allowed complex variations where the color shifted with the lighting. Heart of Darkness, Things Fall Apart, and Learning to Bow are three works which give insights on indigenous societies and cultural conflicts. Heart of Darkness and Learning to Bow both provide insights on indigenous societies from the eyes of outsiders from completely different cultures. Things Fall Apart is different than the other two readings in the sense that it is written from the perspective of an indigenous person. All three works clearly provide â€Å"An insightful perspective of indigenous society; a penetrating analysis of culture conflicts.† Heart of Darkness is written from the perspective of a European sailor named Marlow who travels to Africa and ends up working for the Company, which is a trading company in Africa. Soon after arriving in Africa, Marlow notices a group of enslaved Africans walking in a single file line. He notices how malnourished they are and says â€Å"I could see every rib, the joints of their limbs were like knots in a rope; each had an iron color on his neck, and all were connected together with a chain whose bights swung between them, rhythmically clinking.† (Conrad 10) It does not take long for Marlow to realize how horribly Africans are being treated at the hands of Europeans, the Company in particular. He noticed the face of a young slave near his hand when he was observing his surroundings and gave him a biscuit. Right after seeing these malnourished and mistreated natives, Marlow meets the company’s chief accountant, a man who was so well dressed and groomed that Marlow thought he was a vision at first. Unlike the natives, who wear rags, the chief accountant has â€Å"a high starched collar, white cuffs, a light alpaca jacket, snowy trousers, a clean necktie, and varnished boots... ... effects of imperialism on natives and white men in Africa. The Company has enslaved many natives and one of its officials, Kurtz, goes insane because he is in the jungle by himself with no moral compass to guide him and after the natives start to view him as a demigod, he starts to believe it. Learning to Bow is a journey into Japanese culture from the eyes of an American who ends up teaching the Japanese a lot about his own culture. Throughout his time in Japan, he is faced with what he calls the â€Å"widespread myth of Japanese uniqueness† and encounters many Japanese who believe that he can’t understand their culture because he isn’t one of them. This reading is unlike the others because it takes place in Asia, not Africa. It has become an extremely lucrative business allowing for huge upgrades on new consoles. The current generation of consoles is dominated by Microsoft’s XBOX 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3. In the last generation the Microsoft XBOX was considered by many critics as a better console than the Sony Playstation 2. This generation has brought about more competition among the systems, as there is more technology for each manufacturer to take advantage of. While there are similarities in the two, it is their differences in which the Playstation 3 takes advantage of the XBOX 360’s miscues. Real differences start to appear when you get into the consoles’ features. Sony has equipped the Playstation 3 with Blu-ray, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth capabilities standard on each console (Falcone). None of these comes with the XBOX 360; however Wi-Fi and HD DVD attachments are available separately (Bakalar). In addition Playstation 3 is backwards compatible, meaning that games from previous generations are playable on this system. The XBOX 360 plays older games only if you purchase a hard drive unit. Finally The Xbox 360 charges a fee for online play and usage whereas the Playstation 3 does not. Also both consoles have Netflix capabilities. Each of these consoles present examples of how far our technology has come. Gothic Elements In Jaws In June of 1995, Director Steven Spielberg released a terrifying thriller called Jaws. In this film a gigantic great white shark terrorizes a small island, which is solely dependent on its beach for revenue. This movie was so scary because it is much more likely happen, unlike a zombie apocalypse or alien attack. People were so afraid of shark attacks they stayed far away from the beaches. Spielberg used gothic elements in his movie Jaws.The way he used them scared and still scares people today. The scene I chose is where Hooper finds Ben Gardener's sunken boat. Leading up to this scene Hooper and Broody are on Hoper's boat and Hooper is going to dive into the water to search for the elusive shark. When Hooper dives he diving by a Ben Gardener's shark ravaged boat. One of the gothic elements Spielberg used In this scene was his choice of music and how he used it to set up the scene. For example, when Hooper started to approach the boat.The music got more inten se and right when a human head pops out from the hole in the boat the music stops and it makes it very climatic because you were expecting the shark to come and attack him but instead a scary head pops out from the hole in the boat. Spielberg makes you think that the shark is going to attack Hooper because Hooper finds a huge shark tooth in the side of the boat. So when the music stops and the head pops out it is very surprising and scary. Another gothic element is the camera angle during this scene.The camera Is positioned directly behind Hooper, as he Is scuba diving around the wreckage of the ship. This gives you the feeling of being right there with Hooper and makes you feel claustrophobic because there Is nowhere else to look the right over his shoulder. This sakes the scene so much more scary and intense. Other horror elements are the lighting, props, and makeup. Spielberg made the lighting very dim and spooky. My bachelor degree was related more to Law. First what I thought was Organizational Behavior class was something beyond me. In my point of view course was too complicated for me: everything in specific terminology and hard to understand. But after some time I was getting used to everything and even it was very interesting to do all work in group and have discussions on different situations everyone can face in an everyday life. So I completely changed my perception of this course. Our group has six members: 2 Thai students Terng and Dear, 3 Indonesian students Anthony, Antonia and Stanley and finally me – Aidar from Kazakhstan. All of us had different background and different culture, perspective and attitude. That may recognize as cross culture. Attitude and performance are the most difference, in my country, I have treated as a good audience not a good in debate or discuss, and we will keep our opinion silenced. When people are working in a team, even despite that fact that they have different cultures and the way of thinking, it leads to have the conflict sometimes between the members. But you can gain advantages from getting a good chance to learn more and get experience, learn more about people that have different culture compared to us. Moreover we will know how to adapt each team member’s opinion and try to share with our experiences. We did not form our group by our own wishes. It was done our professor Dr Shmin Liu. So we did not know each other at the very beginning. At the first meeting, we shared about our experience and our background such as where we came from, our bachelor degree and whether we had experience in any job and etc. In fact we had different knowledge and background but we tried to adapt and to know each other closer because we would have to work as a team. The main important thing was to communicate what helped our group pass the assignment successfully. In the second meeting, we brainstorm to select the organization that we have to investigate as our assignment which is directly relevant to the coursework’s objective. We think about the organization that we can have a chance to contact with at least manager of the department. We think that if we can contact with such person, we can know deeply about the organization such as how the organization work, how to separate tasks to each employees and also the problem that happen in the organization. Before we arranged meetings we asked each team members whether they were available or not. Each of our team members was responsible in their tasks. But some of us were very busy because had other reports to write, home assignments, presentations. Approximately in one period of time we had to finish with our assignments, presentations and reports. Sometimes we held long discussions and consequently had to take short breaks and find something to eat together. So the meetings were flexible and I felt enjoy with my teammates and nobody spent a lot energy. It seemed to me that we were having rest somewhere together rather than having discussion. As a group all members have to communicate well with each other. Although this syndicate is not a very good in communicate with each other, yet our syndicate able to complete the task or project well. The syndicate also showed lack of participation or contribution to the project. Ability to contribute is not high. Waiting for other members or leader to tell them what to do is not professional. Willingness to contribute without being ordered by someone creates a perfect team and good working relationship. Willingness to contribute into the project is hopefully occurred in future. The most crucial factor to improve the performance of the group and the satisfaction of its members is a good cooperation. Without a good cooperation and a good contribution from each member it is very difficult to achieve an excellent syndicate. After we held more meetings everybody in the group understood the task assignment very well and as a result each of us was doing a good job in getting the task done. Finally, as a result of our good team work, our work synergy increased to a high level because everybody worked hard for the team. Our group worked well together because everybody helped each other. First two time that we met we not to be familiar with others, our mind were not open anymore. In the meeting, we shared with ideas and thought thoroughly on every offered idea before making a decision. If there were any mistakes helped each other to correct it. We had meetings every week and we started knowing each other better. We had discussed about our work, how it’s going and going in the right way or not. Then we had a chance to ask each others. We did everything step by step. Finally everything was done on time which subsequented to reach our main goal. For performances of our group members, I satisfy with performance of every member. Everyone did their best in each task. We tried to do the best as much as we can. We knew that it had limited time to do this group assignment because we also had another subject’s report, so we had to use that limited time as affective as we can. It made me learn how to take time out. Our leader Anthony suited all characteristics of good leader. I can compare how he did his managing activities within our group at first time in the very beginning of this semester and by the end of this semester and can say without any hesitate that he upgraded well his leading abilities. In my mind all activities held in our class helped not only him but everybody in our whole group. Outward training also helped to develop our abilities: teambuilding, leading for Anthony, communicating and etc. The rest members of our team are very communicative, friendly, tolerant, patient, reliable, and very responsible. Every student in team did his best in performing all kind of works. Everyone is strong in certain kind of ability. Stanley is very smart in solving economical problems and in decision making, Terng and Dear are good in social sciences. They are very resourceful. Antonia is great in preparing presentations and putting relevant information in it. This course helped us to have cultural exchange, making reliable friends, gained good experience. All topics in our class will help us to behave in right way in many situations. We can easily face problems concerned with relations in organization, department, and emotional problems, how to treat with your boss and so on. Experience I got from doing group assignment is working in team with people with different personalities, cultures, and languages. It is good experience for me and my future performance. I would like to conclude that our team is really strong. We already know, understand abilities, moods, habits and meanings of each other, try to avoid any kind of conflicts, making accent on more cooperative way of communication. We are always ready to help each member who has some difficulties with his part, even help each other dealing with others subjects. Most reality shows attempt to convince the audience that the participants of the show are being pushed to their physical, emotional or physiological limits in order to complete a specific task or attain a certain goal of which audience cheer on their favorite participant. With the change in times and technology most reality shows have gone over board and have forgotten the basic concept of reality shows and are now focusing more on entertainment than reality that has lead to increase in sexual exposure, humiliation and immorality. I've never decided if I actually miss playing football. I played tight end and outside linebacker for one season, during my freshman year of high school. The previous winter I'd lifted weights often enough for a junior high kid, then I long jumped in track during the spring and kept in good condition all summer. I was no all-out beast, but for me it was decent dedication. Our coach, Mr. Noble, was horrible. I respected him at the time, and so did everyone else--he was six five and had some serious guns. He'd contrive a good practice with the assistant coaches for ten minutes every day while we ran the perimeter of the practice field, a workout monotonous as recopying history notes. We were in better shape than any other team in the county, but we couldn't play football worth a lick. I started in one or two games toward the end of the season after the first string tight end, Mitch, fractured his wrist, and before the second-string fullback, Eric, learned the position. Like all of the only-half-decent guys, I played special teams every game. Problem was, I sucked at blocking because I had no girth, and I couldn't catch very well because all we ever practiced was blocking. In games, we almost always ran the ball. Our tailback, Conor, kicked butt. He'd have been even better if our coach didn't make him run stupid plays all the time. We'd be fourth and eight at our own 35, and Coach Noble--he made us address him as "sir" all the time ("Yes, sir," "I don't understand, sir," "Sir, I have to leave practice early tomorrow, sir.")--would tell Hildebrand, the QB, to call a blast, an off-guard run right up the middle. Conor would've been better, too, if the linemen, such as myself, had skill as well as endurance. There's a picture in the yearbook from that season that makes me feel like a loser every time I see it--Conor's charging through the line, and I'm on my feet with my knees bent and no one to block, my guy diving for the tackle. Man, I really handled him. The United States also anticipates an oil demand increase as the population grows over the next few decades (Haug, 2011). Therefore, the big dilemma is whether or not the search for oil on our land should continue. The recent development and expansion of clean energy resources, although expensive, can end the battle over oil deposits and lead the country into a cleaner future.As I have grown up, I have seen countless news articles and broadcasts about the damage caused by oil drilling accidents, oil spills, and oil transportation leaks. The damage being done to the environment by the search and use of oil paints a vivid and memorable picture in my memory. I live in an area that is vastly populated to the degree that no one can legalize their vehicle unless they first have their emissions tested and approved. Also, throughout my lifetime, there has been talk o f running out of oil, supply and demand, and the cost of gasoline.All of this leads me to believe that clean energy should be the obvious choice. I have a hard time believing that drilling for new sources of oil within our own land is a good idea because water, wind, and solar energy are cleaner to harvest. Although the initial investment is expensive, it is rather cheap to maintain and collect the energy from clean sources. Instead of having to search for oil, it would be simpler to find places to begin harvesting energy from existing rivers, fields, rooftops.I do not want to consider the alternative of drilling in new places because of all of the risks in entails. If I try to look at our fuel situation by how everyone is affected by the change to clean energy, I may be able to overcome my hindrances. I know that drilling is what we know; it is the way we have fueled almost everything for my entire life and before. Rolling her eyes as if the reasoning behind her bizarre statement is obvious to everyone except me, she explains, â€Å"Because it’s always ten years behind everywhere else.† For the most part, she’s right. Buffalo is rarely on the cutting edge of anything. When pink was the new black, women in Buffalo were still sporting gray. When Pacific Rim was all the rage, we continued to view the corner takeout as authentic Asian cuisine. Forget Mini Coopers, aren’t Chevy Suburbans still considered classy? Although one might think Buffalonians would have an inferiority complex about our less-than-cosmopolitan image, we actually revel in our provincial ways. We embrace the fact that we are the home of the chicken wing, kazoo, and electric chair, and the city whose football team almost won the Super Bowl four times. We are not ashamed to be the birthplace of America’s most forgettable president, Millard Fillmore, and the host of â€Å"Howdy Doody,† Buffalo Bob Smith. At this point, you might be wondering how any self-respecting person could be proud to live in a city whose major claims to fame are a greasy bird appendage and having snow seven months of the year. In order to understand our pride, you have to realize that Buffalo’s backward nature is what makes it so appealing to those who live here. It doesn’t matter that we’re not avant-garde. Instead, we’ve retained the kind of strong, cohesive community where people look out for each other which doesn’t typically exist in cities. On my street, for instance, neighbors greet each other by name, kids play outside unsupervised, and our street association works together to keep the blockattractive. One street over is the Elmwood Strip, where independently owned shops, restaurants, cafes, and the local library can be found. I never â€Å"walk the strip† without running into at least two people I know. I feel safe, at home, and part of the community. When an October storm dumped three feet of snow on Buffalo, half the city was left without electricity or phone service, and most of our trees were destroyed. Debris was everywhere, many roads were impassable, and schools and businesses were closed for over a week. Adults and children banded together to clear fallen branches, provide meals, and even offer their own homes to those in need. One of my neighbors, who has two infants, was without power or heat, but immediately received a neighbor’s generator, prepared meals, and had her driveway and front walk cleared by neighborhood men within hours. Despite our adversity, or perhaps because of it, Buffalonians are proud of who we are: loyal, generous, compassionate, and resourceful people linked by a common connection to each other.
